Trumpeter JOhn Brown
John Brown(e) trumpeter of the 17th Lancers during the Crimean War was one of the trumpeters on the day of the ill-fated Charge of the Light Brigade (October 25th 1854).
John was born on January 8th 1815 in Nottingham. John married a Dublin girl named Margaret Barrett and they lived at 40 Wade Street, Lichfield.
John was a decorated army man, receiving the Russian Medal with 4 clasps, as well as the Legion of Honour and the Turkish and Indian Medals.
John died at the age of 85 years in 1898. He was buried with full military honours in St Michael's Churchyard.
On 5th August 2020, John's great, great grandson, Conor Browne visited St Michael's to see his great, great grandfather's grave. He brought with him John Browne's medals to show us.
