Ride & Stride
Ride and Stride is the sponsored event in aid of the Staffordshire Historic Churches Trust (SHCT). On the second Saturday of September every year, across all of England, cyclists and walkers are sponsored to visit churches - less energetic participants can use car or public transport - with churches open between 10am and 6pm. Last year 85 churches in Staffordshire took part by welcoming visitors while 43 churches sent out sponsored cyclists, walkers and drivers.
Half the money raised is returned to churches to use how they wish; the other half is given in grants to churches towards the cost of repairs and maintenance. Ride and Stride day is also the best time in the year to visit churches and find them open throughout the day. Congregations can get involved as cyclists, walkers, drivers or welcomers. Find out more at https://staffordshirehistoricchurchestrust.org/rideandstride/rideandstridedocsthisyear/

Dear Friends, I am attaching a flyer for The Lichfield Garrick's Fundraising Show for Ukrainian refugees. The Garrick has generously agreed to donate half of the funds raised for Lichfield District City of Sanctuary to provide support for the benefit of refugees arriving in the District of Lichfield. I hope as many of you as possible can book tickets for the event on Sunday 15th May at 5.00. The expenditure of the income will be a major point of discussion for us soon. We hope to see you there! Best wishes, Nigel Gann Secretary, Lichfield District City of Sanctuary |

The annual Stafford County Show takes place this year on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd June at the County Showground in Stafford. For many years we have had a ‘Church Tent’ to be a visible presence of God in the ‘marketplace’ and to be a place of hospitality and prayer. It is a wonderful, worthwhile experience for all who volunteer.
If you are willing and able to volunteer for either half or a full day, please contact the Tent Coordinator, Nicola Busby:

Invitation from the Lichfield Mosque
Leaders of our local Muslim community are inviting us all to join them at the Lichfield mosque on Friday evening at 8.30pm 29th April when they will be breaking their fast to mark the end of Ramadan. We are advised to come a little early towards the end of their evening prayers. The evening meal will be served shortly afterwards. All are welcome. If you decide to come, it would be helpful if you could email Dr Ahomed Moosa at drmoosa14@hotmail.co.uk beforehand. This would help in their catering arrangements. But please feel free to just come along on the night.
The Lichfield Mosque is situated on the South side of Stowe Pool near the Stowe St roundabout.
Dr Moosa has asked me to circulate this invitation through the Lichfield and District Churches Together network and to all City and District Councillors and officers.

CITIZENS PARLIAMENT AT LICHFIELD CATHEDRAL ON WEDNESDAY 6TH APRIL AT 7.30 P.M.
Why has the UK got the unhappiest children and young people in Europe?
Is it right that one in three children lives in poverty?
Come and hear Canon Mark Russell, the Chief Executive of The Children’s Society, talk about his organisation’s ten-year study of childhood and youth in the UK and the campaign he is starting to end children living in poverty by 2030. Christian social teaching echoes Jesus’s words (St John 10:10) “I come that you may have life and have it abundantly”.
The Cathedral will be inviting young people, local politicians, leaders in education, social care and youth and community services, along with school governors, teachers, clergy, officials from our diocese and members of local churches to come and take part in the evening. Please spread the word and invite friends and contacts in the community to attend. ALL ARE WELCOME. The Dean will chair the event. We hope to have a panel of expert guests to respond to our main speaker and stimulate discussion.
The outcome of the meeting will be sent to local MPs, local authorities and regional and national church bodies. It will also be a stimulus to local, practical action and generosity, not least the Cathedral’s project to set up a mental health and wellbeing drop-in centre for children and young people later this year.
